One of the primary contributors to global carbon emissions is the Energy industry both directly (scope 1) and indirectly (scope 2 and 3). This puts them with the enormous responsibility of taking actions to reduce the entire value-chain greenhouse gas emissions. As we move closer to 2030, the imperative to decarbonize is driven by a number of factors, including increasing pressure from governments, investors, and consumers to take action on climate change, as well as the growing availability of low-carbon energy alternatives.
Decarbonization is playing a vital role in helping drive the sustainable and environmentally conscious agenda. Some ways in which organizations are focusing on decarbonization include investing in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power – as well as in alternate fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia and methanol (coupled with nuclear energy) and carbon capture and storage technologies. Additionally, digital technologies such as automation, IoT, data analytics and digital twins help optimize and monitor production to increase efficiency and reduce emissions.
In this chapter of CXO Cyience, we invite you to be a part of the discussion where industry leaders share their viewpoints and visions on how Energy companies and their providers can – and must – drive the decarbonization agenda.
